Switchboard

Privacy Policy

For Switchboard 0.5.x. Last updated: September 7, 2026.

Important: Switchboard operates entirely on your local device. Every action and all data storage happens physically on your machine. No data is ever sent to any external server, cloud, or analytics service.

Data handled on your device

Switchboard helps you manage website login sessions. It processes account labels, website domains, and authentication cookies to provide the features you choose. Cookies can include identifiers and tokens that grant access to an account.

In Chrome, saved cookie snapshots, account labels, website choices, the selected account, and onboarding status are stored in the extension's local browser storage. When switching accounts, Switchboard reads open tab URLs to find the chosen website's tabs. A temporary recovery record stores affected tab IDs, their original URLs, and cookie data. It is removed after successful completion or recovery.

In Firefox, account labels, website choices, container IDs, and onboarding status are stored locally. Firefox manages each container's cookies and site storage. When you request an export, Switchboard reads the chosen website's cookies from the selected container after website access is granted.

Use and sharing

Data is used only to save, restore, switch, label, export, or remove account entries and recover interrupted operations. Switchboard has no analytics, advertising, developer-operated servers, or automatic data uploads. The developer does not receive your cookies or browsing activity from the extension. Switchboard does not sell data or use it for advertising, creditworthiness, or lending decisions.

When you open or refresh a website, your browser communicates with that website normally, including sending the active cookies. The website's own privacy policy applies. The extension's store and your browser may independently handle installation information under their own policies.

Exports and security

Exports occur only when you request them. JSON and TXT exports both contain unencrypted JSON cookie data and are saved through your browser's download flow. Your browser or operating system may save downloads into a folder you have configured to sync elsewhere. Switchboard does not upload the export.

Chrome cookie snapshots are stored without additional extension-level encryption. Protect your device, browser profile, and exported files. Anyone with access to them may be able to access the corresponding website account. Cookie values are not displayed in account lists or written to extension logs.

Retention and deletion

Saved snapshots and account entries stay until you remove them, remove the extension, or clear its storage. Recovery records persist if an operation is interrupted and are removed after recovery completes. Exported files remain wherever you save them until you delete them yourself.

Forget account removes the saved extension entry. Remove website removes its saved extension entries. These actions do not delete live website cookies, log you out, revoke website access permissions, or delete Firefox containers. Use the website's logout to sign out; use browser controls to clear live cookies, remove containers, or revoke permissions. Removing Switchboard does not delete previously exported files or Firefox containers.

Permissions and control

Chrome uses cookies, storage, tabs, and optional website access to manage selected website sessions and refresh their tabs. Firefox uses storage, cookies, and contextual identities for containers; optional website access is requested for export. You choose the websites and export actions. You can manage permissions in your browser's extension settings.

Limited use

Switchboard's use of information received through browser APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Data is used only for the account-management features described here.

Questions and changes

Contact the publisher using the support contact on Switchboard's official store listing. Material changes to data handling will be reflected in this policy and disclosed in the extension where required.
